Bertolli Weeknight Soup Challenge

My Idea:  Create a Ski Lodge dinner experience for my family on a weeknight!

I came up with the Ski Lodge dinner experience because as most of you know, my son is very upset that we have received only a dusting of snow this year.  Every night that there is a possibility of snow, I catch him at the window waiting and hoping for just a glimmer of snow!

From the time that we get home from work/school until I get dinner on the table is approximately one hour.

So in this time, I will be staging the Ski Lodge setting and making dinner!

For dinner, I am trying a Bertolli Soup Meal for Two.  My family loves soup in the winter, especially on cold snowy nights.

I am going to pair Bertolli Meal Soup with a loaf of herb bread for a complete meal.

Setting the Stage Part One:

I wanted to start with items that would give the most impact to the room.

First, I needed some snow, after all, what is a Ski Lodge without snow?!!!

I dusted the window in my living room with artificial snow, and then I cut some quick snowflakes out of white paper and put them up around the room.

To add a cozy feel I decided we would eat on the floor next to the fireplace.

I put a large foe fur blanket on the ground, brought some pillows over for comfy seating and brought a small table into the room for serving.

Time to start dinner:

After mixing the ingredients for the bread and getting it into the oven, I got my Bertolli Meal Soup from the freezer.

Bertolli Meal Soups can be prepared within minutes on the stove.  I poured the frozen soup into a pot, and added in one cup water!  I turned the heat on medium and immediately I could smell the soup!

It smelled great!  Bertolli Meal Soups come in a variety of flavors, I chose the Tuscan – Style Beef with Vegetables and was surprised to see it was filled with large chunks of beef, mushrooms, squash, carrots, celery and bowtie pasta.

Setting the Stage Part 2:

My bread is in the oven and the soup is simmering on the stove as I finish preparing my “Ski Lodge”.

I lit a candle in the fireplace and in various spots around the room.  With the candles and a few lamps I turned off all other lights and the room really looked cozy and inviting!  Perfect!

The Dinner:

I got my son and husband from upstairs and told them to dress warmly for dinner because I was taking them somewhere special!

My husband knew what I was preparing, but my 4-year-old was really excited.

We walked downstairs and my son immediately noticed the snow on the windows and the paper snowflakes everywhere!  He loved it!

Bertolli Soup Review

We sat on the floor, picnic style, in front of the fireplace and I brought in our dinner!  Bertolli Meal Soup and freshly baked Herb bread, we all tried the soup and loved it!  I was surprised at how fresh the ingredients tasted.

I was expecting it to taste like a frozen meal (and I eat frozen meals a few times a week at work), but it didn’t.  It was as if I made it from fresh ingredients in my kitchen!

It was also very filling.

My husband, son and I were able to make a full dinner out of the soup and bread!  Of course, we had dessert as no special dinner is complete without dessert!

I made cupcakes with white icing covered in sugar sprinkles to look like snow!

After dinner, my son and I stayed by the fireplace a bit longer.  We made more paper snowflakes, shadow puppets from the light of the lamps and read a book about what else, but snow!

The night was so much fun.  This will definitely be added to my ever-growing list of family traditions!
