Slowcooker Apple Butter Recipe

Slowcooker Apple Butter Recipe

I had a 3 lb. bag of apples sitting on my counter and I had every intention of bringing an apple a day in with me to work, but they ended up just staying on my counter.

In order to efficiently use the entire bag all at once, I decided to try making apple butter.  I have never made or even tasted apple butter before, but have wanted to try it for a while and I finally had the perfect opportunity!

Slowcooker Apple Butter Recipe

Recipe type: Condiment
Author: Jane
Prep time: 1 hour
Cook time: 12 hours
Total time: 13 hours
Ingredients
  • 3 pounds medium apples
  • 1 Tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
Instructions
  1. Peel, core, and slice apples in fourths. Put them in the slow cooker with the vanilla and cook on low for 6-8 hours. Stir every few hours. Once apples are tender, mash and stir in sugar and spices. (After mashing I put the apples in my Vitamix to blend to a smooth consistency.) Cook on low for another 5-6 hours, stirring occasionally.
  2. Cool, pour into jars, refrigerate. Apple Butter will last in the refrigerator for 2-3 months. To store apple butter for a longer period of time seal jars by canning them.
